As a warm up to the tutorials, I will kind off tell you the tutorials. I will write what you need to do and such, but will also upload tutorials, so you can see what I mean.

Masking: How people mask are kind off different, but the result will be the same. So my way to mask is that I first start Sony Vegas or whatever I use as a editing program, take a clip in it, and go to PanCorp, the button over the effect button which is to the right in the clip. There it will come up a new window, with the clip in picture mode. At the bottom there is two lines, representing the time in the clip. For example, 00:00 to 02:34 means that the clip is 2 minutes and 34 seconds long. At the left of the lines, you can see a square named "Mask" press that one. You will now see a different window, acutally the same but the looks are different inside. The mouse is now looking like a cutting tool, which is what you are going to use to mask. Now, this is important so you should learn this at once: The cutting only keeps what is INSIDE of the "circle" you have marked, so don't try to cut away small pieces with this. Anyway, you drawn lines around the object you want to keep and after you have completed the "circle" everything else gets black and gone. You can't move the object around however, so you could take a picture of it and then move it around. If you have done what I've said, you are now done with the masking and ready to continue. I recommend you play a little with the masking tools to understand what you can do and such before you use it in a real movie.

Basics: The basics aren't that easy to describe, but I will give it a try anyway. Some of the basics you should learn before you can call yourself a nice editor, atleast this is my opinion so don't get offended if this is wrong compared to you, is to hit the main beats (in music videos), put on fitting effects, have a flow, and more.
Hit the main beats: to hit the main beats in music videos, you should have a song that have all right beats which are not difficult to hear. If you want to be precise, you could zoom in so much, you'll see the song flow goes up and down and such. Then it is easy to see where the main beats are, which usually are the one which are the highest "line" The tutorial will contain better information than what I can describe here.
Put on fitting effects: To put on fitting effects, you first need to see and understand where the effect will be. In music videos, like I make, the place of an effect is important. If you make the video blurry when the song is at a quite and calm place, it will just look horrible. So, first you need to understand what you will put and where and how it will be. In like techno songs, the effect called TV simulator is often used, but in wrong way. I might use it the wrong way myself, but some do it worse than others and I don't think I do it that bad as I get credit for it. TV Simulator is often used in a way that makes the clip blurry and shaking and such, but they should still be viewable, so it looks better if you take it more easier and don't make the clips blurry, it could be nice. More information about this will be in my tutorial
Have a flow: everything I've talked about under this point is acutally for music videos, but I think the flow acutally is important in every movie. With flow I mean the clips are switched and such at the same time, for example a clip switched with a other clip after 5 seconds, and the next one is also switched after 5 seconds

Time and types of videos

To make a video, it can take hours, days, weeks, even months if it is just short ones. Real movies usually takes about a year or so. Even though it could take months, it would be worth it as those who spend their time right and good, ends up with the best result. For example, one guy make a video in 1 day. Then a other guy makes a video in 2 weeks. It all depends however on how skilled they are, but if they are just as skilled, the one which used 2 weeks, usually ends up as the best.

Collabs (which is a video edited by 2 put thogeter) this could be important, if 1 guy finish much earlier than the other, it could end up as a bad video.

IC (kind of a collab, but you have a specific time period you much be within to make a video, for example a 1 hour IC means that you have 1 hour to make a video, though ICs usually ends up as really short) the most important thing is exactly to use your time well,a 10 second movie made in 1 hour could be better than a 45 second movie made in 1 hour. I'm not sure what IC stands for though

MEPs is a teamwork video, which is atleast 3 editors in same video, it can come up to many more, and in MEPs the most important thing is, as usually to use your time well, but also start and end at the specific place in a song, or else the MEP is pointless. Which editor having which part is decided by those editors in the MEP. I'm not sure what MEP stands for though.

The best thing a new editor could do, is joining a MEP with other more famous people, so they can give you tips and more people can find you.

Rendering

When you for example make a video in sony vegas, you need to render the video to see it in a media player or to be able to upload it on internet. First of all I download my clips or movies with a program called RealPlayer, it is free and legal, and render the clips with Prism Video Converter, can be free and can be bought, depends how good you want it, and render them in settings fitting the program you use to edit with. I use sony vegas as example now, after you have rendered it, it is just to drag the clip in the program.

After you have edited and you are satisfied with your video, it is just to go to file, and go render. I recommend to render it as Windows Media Video, as it doesn't take up much space and is just as good as the other settings. I can also come with a tutorial about how to make the video Widescreen HD, or atleast what I've learned and done, but I'm quite busy with the other tutorials already, so I might not make it in time.

Editing Programs

One of the programs I use to edit my movies with, is called Sony Vegas Pro. I used Pro 8 first, then it got updated to 9 and now it have been updated to 10, so it is updated once a year. It can be kind off confusing at first, but when you get the hang of it, it would almost be invaluable compared to Windows Movie Maker or other free programs.

If you get the hang of it, you could go over to use Adobe After Effects if you want to add more or better effects in your movies. It is even harder to get than Sony Vegas, but it would be worth it if you got it.

A program called Cinema 4d is pretty good to use if you want to make good introductions or pictures. I rarely use it myself, but I can try to make a friend doing a tutorial or something about it, as he use it quite often.

In videos you could also add pictures or something similar. You can use Paint to do something with it so it can fit better. A program called GIMP (it is free) is also a program you could use if you want to make pictures or do something with them.

tutorials

This is my new blog, I managed to forget the password on the last one, so I made a new one. I will upload some tutorials on some different things, for example how I mask, which means how I get something out of the picture and get it over a other clip, some basics in video editing, how the different scenes might fit with different genre of music.
